Welcome to our course on “Pediatric Allergy and Immunology: Challenges and Considerations”. This course will help the pediatricians know the latest strategies for managing allergic and immunologic disorders.  The course consists of 4 modules:

Module 1: Asthma and Allergy: A Pediatric Perspective

Module 2: Food allergy and food intolerances

Module 3: Pediatric clinical immunology

Severe asthma in children is a highly heterogeneous disorder with several co-morbidities. A better understanding of mechanisms underlying progression of atopic march could improve the management and the long-term outcomes of pediatric severe asthma. Module 1 focuses on the current knowledge about interactions between severe asthma and allergies in children.

Pediatricians often encounter children with food allergy. It’s important to differentiate true food allergy FA from food intolerance. Early recognition and treatment of severe reactions and prevention of FA is vital. In Module 2, we will discuss the classification, diagnosis and management of food allergy and food intolerances.

Pediatric clinical immunology is rapidly emerging as a major clinical specialty. The module concludes with a Module focusing on increasing the awareness and understanding of Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDs) and autoimmune disorders which fall under the domain of clinical immunology.

Learning objectives: On completion of this course the participants will be able to:

• Integrate and demonstrate improved understanding of allergic/immunologic disorders in children with focus on severe asthma, food allergies and food intolerance.
• Stay updated on an expanding array of diagnostic approaches and therapeutic options to manage the allergic/immunologic disorders
• Keep abreast of the latest advances in the complex, emerging field of pediatric clinical immunology
